While we all want a smile that looks beautiful, the foundation for this is always excellent oral health. As a practice we are passionate about great oral health! If you’d like to give your oral health regime a boost, here are our top tips…

1. Better Brushing

While we’re sure you already brush your teeth, do you know if you are doing it correctly? The first thing to be conscious of is the amount of time you spend brushing, it should be around two minutes twice a day and we highly recommend timing yourself. Perfect moment for brushing are just after you get up in the morning, and last thing at night just before bedtime. Your dental hygienist can provide advice on the most effective way to brush your teeth too, so make sure you attend your appointments as often as advised.

2. Floss

We know every dentist and hygienist always talks about flossing, and we don’t want to sound like a cliché but this is SO important for optimal oral health. Think about all those nooks, crannies, and surfaces in between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach… if you don’t floss then these areas won’t ever get cleaned, not a pleasant thought is it? If you have difficulties flossing there may be a different tool, technique, or trick that our hygienists can help you with.

3. Change Your Brush Regularly

Did you know that you should change your toothbrush – or brush head if you use an electric brush – every three months (or sooner if you’ve been poorly to avoid spreading germs)? This is because the bristles start to wear out and become less effective after this time. If your bristles look ragged or splayed it is definitely time for a new one, pronto.

4. Visit The Hygienist For Optimal Oral Health

Dental hygienists are amazing, fact! They have all manner of tools and tricks to remove the plaque build up that we all get from time to time and they can also reach all of the places that we just can’t get to with a regular toothbrush. In addition, nothing really beats the way teeth feel after a hygiene clean.

5. Attend Your Check Ups!

Routine dental check ups are really important for staying on top of your oral health because we can keep an eye on things to ensure your health is stable (or getting better).
